Go Devil 38
« on: March 13, 2016, 05:17:43 PM »
I decided after a year of owning this kit it's time to build it! Rocketry Warehouse Go Devil 38. Go Devil's are the same as the mongoose series but fiberglass. I decided to round the edges of the 1/6" fins on this one. I cleaned with alcohol, measured, masked, and sanded the fins and body tube where the fins will be glued on. one final scrub down with alcohol and one fin root is lightly buttered with JB weld then left to cure till tomorrow. the nifty fin guides come with the kit!

now that the first fin is fully cured I clamped it in the bench vise so I could glue down the other two fins. I made sure to notch the corners of the fin alignment guides before I started so they don't become one with the rocket :)

lots of masking tape and rocketpoxy were harmed in the making of these pictures :) no where near perfect but they should do. I used a piece of 1/2" copper pipe to form the fillets.

the fin jigs come with the kit from Rocketry Warehouse. They are a nice tight fit, I had to sand and file them just a little bit to get a perfect fit on the body tube and the fins.

The fillets had a few flaws that needed to be sanded out, and then I decided to try sanding the fiberglass. As made it is really smooth but I wet sanded with 800 then 1200 grit and now it's really slick. I need to get the AV bay sled together next.
